Another variance is the Surfboard SBG6700.

What this product does?

Arris Surfboard SBG6700 is a wireless AC1600 router with built-in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, high speed Cable modem with downstream speed up to 343Mbps. Ideal for homes with high speed cable services including Comcast/Xfinity, Time Warner Cable, Cox and others.

Wifi

This product is a compact device, all in one product to build a wireless AC network in home with dual band speed up to 1300Mbps @5GHz band and up to 300Mbps @2.4GHz band. With the built-in 8/4 channel bonding DOCSIS 3.o cable modem, you can eliminate clutter of devices that traditionally consists of cable modem plus a wireless router.

With 8/4 Channel bonding cable modem, it is similar to popular Arris Surfboard SB6141 cable modem. And with wireless AC1600 based wireless router, is similar to wireless AC1750 routers with slightly different speed @2.4GHz such as Netgear R6700 AC1750 router or TP-link Archer C7 AC1750 router. For small to medium homes, this product is ideal solution instead of building wifi network with two separate cable modem and wireless router.

The bad thing is that this is a single point of failure product, when there is something wrong with the wifi part or the modem part you have to replace the whole part. The good thing with separate modem plus a wireless router is that you can upgrade the modem side or you probably following the trend of wireless routers that evolves so fast regarding the speed, and today you can see that TP-link introduces multi-band router based on next generation wireless AD standard – the TP-link Talon AD7200 router. Or probably your aging legacy wireless G router requires upgrading to faster router, probably taste the wireless AC based router by starting the cheap wireless AC1900 router – Tenda AC15 wireless AC1900 router.

Comparison with Netgear and Motorola

Similar products available in the market today, you may compare Arris Surfboard SBG6700 with popular Netgear C6300 or Motorola MG7550. Netgear C6300 cable modem gateway is based on wireless AC1750 technology with built-in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, while Motorola MG7550 is based on faster wireless AC1900 technology.

To read more details how they compare each other, have a look at the following two comparison tables. Table 1 shows you comparison between Arris Surfboard SBG6700AC and Netgear C6300, while table 2 shows you comparison between Surfboard and Motorola MG7550.

Cable modem

All the three products come with built-in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, however they are designed with different downstream speed which is typically noted by the number of channel bonding. Surfboard SBG6700 is designed with 8 channel bonding for downstream with speeds up to 343Mbps. On the other hand, both Netgear C6300 and Motorola BG7550 are similar with twice number of downstream channel bonding as many as SBG6700. This is similar with most popular Surfboard SB6183 with 16/4 channel bonding. See also competing product by Linksys – the Linksys CM3024 24/8 DOCSIS 3 cable modem which the price is not too higher than SB6183.

Wifi router

The integrated wireless router in each of the product is also different, each product comes with different wireless AC network segment. You can notice that Motorola MG7550 is based on the fastest wifi network segment – the wireless AC1900, slightly higher speed @2.4GHz band than the other two competing products.

When you require wifi expansion, adding a wireless dual band range extender is an easy solution. See also most popular Netgear EX7300 AC2200 range extender – the wall-plug model and the Linksys RE6500HG the desktop model range extender.
