New AC1900 variants
Linksys and D-link, and other networking vendors, introduce other variants of AC1900 routers. D-link offers new D-link DIR-879, while Linksys offers new Linksys EA7500. What are the enhancements?
Linksys EA7500 Vs EA6900
The newest flagship introduced by Linksys is Linksys EA9500 which delivers total bandwidth of up to 5400Mbps, not available in the market yet up to Mar 2016. Besides, it also introduces new cable modem wifi combo – the Linksys CG7500 cable modem gateway based on AC1900 in addition of new EA7500 and new version of WRT AC1900ACS Linux-based router.
So what is the main difference between Linksys AC1900 EA7500 and EA6900? The apparent difference is Linksys EA7500 Max-Stream features Multi User MIMO technology but Linksys 6900 doesn’t . What this stuff is used for? The router sends data streams to multiple wifi devices concurrently, it is not like standard non MU-MIMO router which sends data streams one by one to wifi client devices that might cause lagging and data buffering when they run heavy duty applications at the same time.
D-link DIR-880L Vs DIR-879
Several new products are also introduced by D-link this 2016 and some are not available in the market yet, but a couple of them are including the newest flagship DIR-895 which is based on AC5300 and DIR-879. The last one is offered based on AC1900 router in addition of the previous DIR-880L. Are there any enhancements for this new 879?
The apparent different with new D-link AC1900 DIR 879 is the fancy design, and physically this new product is not embedded with the USB ports like its predecessor DIR-880L with two USB ports. Moreover, the apparent different is the antennas. Unlike DIR-880 that comes with three dual external antennas, the DIR-879 is more powerful with 4 external antennas and with high power 1,000mW amplifier.

Now let’s make a spec comparison between these new products, the Linksys EA7500 vs D-link DIR-879 wireless AC1900 routers. With this technology your clients can stream video and online gaming simultaneously with no lagging. This feature is typically applied to high end wireless AC routers such as new Asus RT-AC88U AC3100 router, high power Asus AC5300 router – a three band router technology with total bandwidth of up to 5,300Mbps , Linksys AC2600 EA8500 and its rival TP-link Archer C2600 and still more.
Linksys EA7500 features this MU-MIMO but D-link DIR-879 doesn’t.
This Smart-connect feature is also a high end feature typically applied to high end routers such as D-link DIR-885 AC3100 dual band router powered by 1.4GHz dual core processor, or Linksys EA9200 AC3200 three band router and still more. What this feature does? Your router select best wifi band available to each of the wifi clients intelligently. Lower speed devices don not compete with high speed devices in the same band, the router select which band is ideal for individual wifi devices. Linksys AC1900 EA7500 doesn’t feature this technology but D-link DIR-879 does.
Antennas design applied to each of the products is different, you can see the apparent difference by seeing the number of external antennas in each of the product. Linksys is engineered with three external antennas while D-link with four external antennas. In addition, d-link comes with high power 1,000mW amplifier to provide you wider range within your large house.
One thing that many people think the important of the USB ports in the router will disappoint the fact that new D-link DIR-879 doesn’t come with USB ports. This is contrarily with Linksys EA7500 which is like other standard high end routers that always come with two USB ports, USB 2.0 and super speed USB 3.0. Probably it is just to cut the price by adding other high end features such as high power 1,000mW amplifier, intelligent Smart-connect and intelligent QoS.

Both EA7500 and DIR-879 offer high performance features including, MU-MIMO (Linksys) and Smart-Connect (D-link), thanks that both comes with beamforming technology. D-link offers high power 1,000mW amplifier but with the absence of USB ports.
