Luma Vs Orbi
Let’s make a spec comparison between Luma and Netgear Orbi, you can see the spec comparison between the two products represented in the following spec comparison table.
At a glance you can find that Orbi is superior over its competing product Luma knowing that Orbi is a three band wifi system while Luma is a two band wifi system. Three band router typically offers higher bandwidth totally than the two band routers.
However, you can find that Linksys WRT AC3200 the two band router with 160Mhz three data streams delivers high speed of 2,600Mbps in 5GHz band plus 600Mbps in 2.4Ghz band. Almost the same bandwidth as those three band AC3200 routers such as Linksys EA9200 and TP-link Archer C3200 routers.
Luma is designed based on dual band AC1200 network segment while Orbi is a three band system based on AC3000 network segment. With AC1200 Luma delivers speed of 867Mbps @5GHz band plus 300Mbps @2.4Ghz band. See also top 5 AC1200 routers.
On the other hand, Orbi delivers three band wifi system with speeds of up to 1733Mbps plus 866Mbps @5Ghz band and up to 400Mbps @2.4Ghz band. Technically with Orbi you have more bandwidth than Luma does.
Luma offers only two Gigabit Ethernet ports, one IN port as the WAN port connect to modem (the first Luma device) and another port is Out port as LAN ports. In daisy chain configuration you connect each of the Out port (1st Luma) to the IN port (2nd Luma) and Out port to the IN port and so on. In star setup with the switch each second, third and so forth Luma devices connect to the switch each of its IN port.
Orbi offers four Gigabit Ethernet ports, for router 1 port is for WAN port connected to the modem and the other three ports as LAN ports. For Orbi satellite, all the four ports work as LAN port for wired connection to Ethernet-based devices.
Both Orbi and Luma offer single USB 2.0 port, however the function is not like those USB ports in wireless routers in general for sharing printer and disk storage. Orbi leaves USB port is reserved for future usage, while Luma is almost the same no function but you can use it as the USB port for charging mobile devices.
Besides standard wifi security such as WPA/WPA2 encryption, Luma offers built-in cyber protection as discussed above.
