Nighthawk X4S Vs EA8500 Vs Archer AC2600

Some people might think why Netgear introduced Netgear Nighthawk X4S router based on wireless AC2600 network segment while Netgear has been released couple of models of Netgear wireless AC3200 and wireless AC5400 routers in the market. There had been around few models of wireless routers based on AC2600 technology for months before Netgear introduced Nighthawk X4S (aka Netgear R7800) including Linksys EA8500, TP-link AC2600, and Amped RTA2600 high power router.

What this product does

Netgear R7800 was released later than other higher level Netgear high performance routers, even after Netgear released into the market the ultimate wireless AC5300 Nighthawk X8 router. With the base of wireless AC2600 technology, it should’ve been released before wireless AC3200 or wireless AC5300 technology should it be based on aggregated bandwidth order. Here it is the Nighthawk X4S based on wireless AC2600 technology.

As the name is implied as AC2600 the router delivers technically the speeds of up to 2,530 Mbps aggregated bandwidth. In 2.4GHz band it delivers speeds up to 800Mbps with wireless N devices, and in 5 GHz band it delivers speed of up to 1,733 Mbps with wireless AC devices, faster speed than wireless AC3200 router @5GHz which speed is only 1300Mbps.

It comes with 4x external high performance antennas, the router features MU-MIMO (multi-user MIMO) technology for streaming data to multiple devices simultaneously as opposed to traditional non MU-MIMO routers which deliver one data stream to each device in a time. Mostly AC2600 is engineered with this MU-MIMO technology including Linksys EA8500. This feature’s eliminating bottleneck when multiple devices connect together at the same time requesting huge data traffic.

Netgear r7800

Main features

  • Total bandwidth of up to 2.53 Gbps (800 Mbps in 2.4GHz + 1733Mbps in 5GHz)
  • Quad data stream technology – MU-MIMO Wave2 Wifi 160MHz
  • 4x high performance external antennas with 4×4 data stream design
  • Powered by 1.7 GHz dual core processor with 512 MB RAM
  • Beamforming+ for solid wifi connection and longer distance coverage
  • Dual USB 3.0 ports and e-SATA port for storage
  • Netgear Genie apps for network management

With the above highlights, you will see that technically it is almost the same as the wireless AC2400 router (Nighthawk X4) which was released long time ago.

Nighthawk X4 Vs X4S

Middle of 2014 Netgear offered Wireless AC2350 router – the Nighthawk X4 (aka Netgear R7500) which was I thought the ultimate router before finally Netgear released Nighthawk X6 router with wireless AC3200 three band technology.

So what are the differences between the Nighthawk X4 and Nighthawk X4S. The first difference is the wireless AC speed. X4 is based on wireless AC2350 meaning the total bandwidth is up to 2,350 Mbps (600+1733), while X4S is based on wireless AC2600 with total bandwidth of up to 2,53 Gbps (800+1733).

Secondly, the hardware performance. X4 is powered by 1.4GHz dual core processor with 256MB RAM, the same processor used by Linksys EA8500. While X4S is powered by the faster processor – the 1.7 GHz dual core processor with 512 MB RAM. Surely you will find the processing tasks is faster for X4S than X4.

Thirdly, the difference is about the MU-MIMO technology as discussed earlier what this technology is for simultaneous data transfer for multiple devices connected to the router at a time. And still minor features that can be presented in the following comparison table.
